From 5 December to 10 January even the historical heritage of Villa Litta in Lainate celebrates Christmas. For the eighth year in a row, the domain hosts one of the most renowned nativity scenes display based on a theme called ‘The Nativity Scene: a symbol of love and hope’ and featuring over a hundred artisanal nativity scenes hand-made by expert craftsmen coming from any province of Lombardy. Four types of nativity scenes (“presepe” in Italian), each one belonging to a tradition dating back to many centuries ago are on display, among which the folk creche featuring representations of local cattlesheds and villages and the oriental-styled nativity, whose male characters all wear characteristic turbans. Neapolitan-style creches with countless angels and the Spanish one, boasting reminds to the Italian folk nativity are also on exhibit and targeted at astonishing the visitors’ eyes with their beauty. A wonderful one-thousand-piece creche created by craftsman Carlo Battista Castellini, in perfect keeping with the local tradition and techniques is core to the wide exhibition. But it’s not all, as the wide exhibition also boasts ‘side exhibitions’ in many shops in Rho, which will be lent some of the pieces on exhibit in Villa Litta. Many connected events are held in the villa, four concerts to entertain all the family. A wonderful initiative to promote the safeguard of tradition and to make youngsters and their family enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
