Not only Christmas in Milan is one of the most awaited times of the year, but now also the Advent is an unmissable hot-date in the city centre. Milan’s Municipality indeed has a tradition mixing Christmas traditions with the best of music performances at the stunning location of Piazza Duomo, above famous Mondadori bookstore.
From 1 to 24 December, daily at 5pm, the atmosphere in the square is usually enlivened both by the giant Christmas tree and by a 30-minute-concert by an ever-increasing number of musicians, performing the best pieces from their repertoire from the lighted rooms of the historical building to provide visitors a great live music session and to enjoy the very spirit of Milanese Christmas.

Since 2015, pupils and former students of the City’s Jazz School from the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, starting from one performer for the first open window on 1 December up to a 24-musician-band playing from 24 windows on 24 December gave their personal interpretation of traditional Christmas songs, obviously with an appealing jazz twist and culminating daily with an ever-new version of Stille Nacht. The list of artists included famous performers whose performances were also embellished by great scenic allotments on the uber-central historical building overlooking the square.

In 2020, in compliance with the safety measures to stop the pandemic, the Advent Calendar has been switched to its online version. >> Discover more here
