1. Paper Fashion on Display at Villa Necchi Campiglio
More than thirty outfits deftly crafted from paper by ingenious Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave will embellish the rooms of Villa Necchi Campiglio, a property owned by FAI – the Italian National Trust – in the heart of Milan. Featuring suits by Dior, brightly-coloured Japanese kimonos, evening gowns by Lanvin and Poiret and daywear by Chanel, these paper marvels, inspired by iconic styles and historic collections, become real artistic installations. 2. Caravaggio’s Works on Display
A visit to the Pinacoteca di Brera is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to admire the third exceptional dialogue between Caravaggio’s ‘Dinner at Emmaus’, one of the museum’s in-house masterpieces, and other ‘guest’ works. The reorganization of the rooms is part of a project involving the complete redesign of the museum’s 38 rooms by 2018, including the recent re-opening of the main door.

3. Ester Rada’ s Concert for aperitivo in Concerto
Ethiopian-Israeli singer Ester Rada is set to perform at Milan’s traditional Sunday morning Aperitivo in Concerto event. This extraordinary singer thrills with her rich music inspired by the great masters of jazz and soul including Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin. An authentic stage animal, this is Ester Rada’s first and only Italy date.

4. Artigianato in Fiera, Art and Crafts Fair
L’Artigiano in Fiera at the Rho Fairgrounds is one of the largest international events dedicated to arts and crafts. Divided into different sections, it is organized by geographic and territorial origin – Italy (the largest presence), Europe and over 100 countries from across the world – to promote individual cultures and traditions. Free admission.

5. Christmas Concert at the Duomo
This year theo traditional Christmas concert in Duom square features the Orchestra of the Solisti Veneti conducted by Maestro Claudio Scimone, in association with the Associazione Lombarda Song Onlus. Free admission, first come first served basis.

6. Madama Butterfly at LaScala Opera House
One of the world’s most celebrated and best-loved operas, Madama Butterfly premiered at La Scala in February 1904, but was a resounding flop. Puccini withdrew it from the theatre’s schedule and began extensive revisions. In May of the same year, the opera was staged at the Grande Teatro in Brescia to great acclaim. Maestro Riccardo Chailly proposes the first original version. The opera stars soprano Maria José Siri and is directed by Alvis Hermanis.

7. Masterpieces on Display for Christmas at Palazzo Marino
The City of Milan renews its traditional Christmas date with art at Palazzo Marino. This year you can admire one of the greatest masterpieces of Renaissance art, the ‘Madonna of Mercy’ by Piero della Francesca, the central panel of the ‘Polyptych of Misericordia’ housed in the Civic Museum of Sansepolcro, in the same town where the Tuscan master was born. On an iconographic level, this classic medieval rendition marks the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Admission free.

8. The master of Baroque on Display
This unique exhibition dedicated to Pietro Paolo Rubens‘ relationship with ancient art and classic sculpture. However, the underlying message of the exhibit is to enlighten the public about the great Flemish master’s influence on younger Italian Baroque masters.
