Following a trend introduced on the previous EICMA 2016 edition, a particular attention is being given to sustainable, low environmental impact electric vehicles, ranging from mopeds with interchangeable lithium batteries, like the new models introduced by Futuro or Niu, to mid-size scoots, such as the new BMW C Evolution, as well as e-bikes with long-lasting batteries, perfect to be used in town and offroad, to easily get over slopes and even in one of the most fuel-addict sectors: the offroad and motocross. One example? The uber-powerful KTM Freeride E-XC, in its restyled edition.

World of Adventure Sports

The new BMW G310 GS

An increasingly growing trend is connected to the world of adventure sports motorbikes, interpreted as the new frontier of comfort on all tracks, from offroad to city streets. On the 2017 EICMA, almost any of the major brands in the sector features at least one model connected to the adventure sports world, be it the well-loved Africa Twin by Honda, now introduced in its CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports edition, the XT1200ZE Super Ténéré by Yamaha, now enhanced by an efficient ABS system, the new V-Storm by Suzuki or the traditions GS family by BMW. A family that has been enhanced, for the very first time, by the revisited version of one of the brand’s favourites, the G 310 R, now introduced in its G 310 GS version, combining the utmost of versatility with a small 309 cc engine.

Believe it or not, Yamaha has branched into the world of the three wheels by introducing to the public its new Niken, combining the agility of a scooter with the stability of the two front wheels, where each wheel is connected to the handlebars through a double upturned fork.

The 75th EICMA witnesses that great classic lines never get out of fashion. An example? The new Triumph Bonneville Bobber Black, or the brand-new Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 marking a new era in the off-road brand. Ducati as well is in the first row in the sector, with a collection of Scrambler variations covering the Sport, Special and Full Throttle Editions in innovative, shiny colours and details. For those who won’t believe it,  Kawasaki has also joined the classic world with a new version of its Z model, featuring cutting-edge technologies and engines but with a vintage attire: EICMA has welcomed its Z900RS motorbike.

World of Ducati

The Bologna-based company has welcomed the highly-awaited Panigale V4 S (top picture of this article), featuring the efficient and super fast Desmosedici engine consisting in a v-shaped four-cylinder layout allowing the utmost of balance without the need to resort to a balance shaft to eliminate the vibrations. Plus a fierce and captivating attire. The well loved Multistrada as well has been given a makeover: the new Multistrada 1260 features a powerful 1262 cc engine and four possibilities of equipment. Last but not least, biking enthusiasts can welcome back the restyling of Monster, now in its characteristic pure yellow colouring again.

Attention to Safety

Pavilion no. 18 is once again home to research in safety which includes, besides the increasingly more efficient and lighter motorbike airbags, connectivity solutions allowing bikers avoid crashes. In 2017, indeed, the Connected Motorcycle Consortium has been introduced, conjuring up the experience of Honda, Yamaha and BMW. It consists of cutting-edge GPS technologies tracking the rider’s route and providing alerts or danger signals in case of accidents on the selected track.
