DISTANCE FROM MILAN: 45 km (roughly 28 miles), 55 mins driving.
Surrounded by the woods of the Ticino Park, Vigevano’s main attraction is its famous piazza Ducale, described by revered composer Arturo Toscanini as a “a symphony on four sides”. Designed by Bramante with the assistance of Leonardo da Vinci, piazza Ducale, one of the longest and most majestic in Europe, served as a stately forecourt to the town’s imposing Castle. A city of art but also of water, Vigevano is crossed by the Ticino river and by canals that offer views and natural oases of breathtaking beauty. However, the city is anso renowned throughout the world as Italy’s shoemaking capital (don’t miss a visit to the International Footwear Museum).
