Leonardo 3 – Il Mondo di Leonardo has been enriched by a new instrument, a worldwide premiere: the first unpublished, perfectly crafted version of a crossbow. Designed on sheets 143, 153 and 155 of the Codex Atlanticus, the crossbow is one of Leonardo’s few unpublished projects that actually works to perfection. The model not only allows for precise, powerful release but is also equipped with a practical quick loading mechanism, non-existent even in traditional, modern-day leaf spring catapults.
Starting from this Monday Leonardo’s crossbow will be on display at the exhibition Leonardo3.
The Demonstration
On 24 June 2015 the Federazione Balestrieri Sammarinesi gave demonstration to media representatives on how the weapon actually works, at scenic Sforza Castle (see Photo Gallery).
