About the Exhibition
“Anicka Yi: Metaspore” is the solo exhibition of one of the most innovative and interesting contemporary artists. Yi combines languages and themes from different fields: from philosophy to biology, from politics to science fiction.
“Metaspore” brings together in the space of the Sheld of Pirelli HangarBicocca over twenty works by Anicka Yi made in the last ten years and deepens the multifaceted approach of the Korean-American artist (she was born in Seoul in 1971, lives and works in New York), characterized by the mixture of perishable and industrial materials, between sculpture and installation.
More details
The exhibition project focuses on the olfactory dimension, presenting a series of works characterized by the use of fragrances, and on the analysis of biological processes such as decomposition and metamorphosis. The exhibition stimulates the sensory and perceptive experience of visitors, through odors, mutant forms and biological elements.
Why this title?
The title, “Metaspore“, takes inspiration from the biological world: spores are the cellular units that reproduce and give rise to new living entities without the need for sexual reproduction, as is the case with the exhibition at Pirelli HangarBicocca, which transforms autonomously over time. The installations are creations between science and art, between organic and synthetic, between human and non-human.
