Exhibition: “Cesare Colombo. Photographs 1952-2012”

Hosted in the spaces of the Corte Ducale – Sala Viscontea, within the Sforza Castle, the exhibition “Cesare Colombo. Fotografie 1952-2012” pays tribute to the important production of Italian photographer Cesare Colombo. Featuring over 100 shots taken between 1952 and 2012, the display depicts the city of Milan and its cultural, economic, social and political insights, as well as the evolution of the urbanisation and of architecture in Milan. The pictures, almost all in black and white, offer a perfect portrait of Milan in the 1960s and of its urban development.

What’s on display

The images, displayed according to specific graphic solutions conceived by Italo Lupi, highlight the artistic growth and evolution of the artist. Never-before-seen videos and short recordings help providing insightful highlights on the historical context and society of the 1960s and 1970s. Besides urban landscapes, important personalities in the Milanese world of industry and fashion – including Giorgio Armnai at work – Colombo’s images focus of dramatic happenings in Milan, such as the massacre in Piazza Fontana. Other aspects from the Milanese society of that time such as the role of women, the birth of design and fashion and important events in the world of art emerge from the images by the artist.
