About the Concert
The forty-second season of the Filarmonica della Scala opens on Monday 23 January 2023 at the Teatro alla Scala with conductor Lahav Shani. Unanimously considered one of the brightest talents of the new generation, the thirty-three-year-old Israeli conductor is entrusted with the opening of the new cycle, confirming the attention that the Filarmonica has always paid to the most interesting talents of the international music scene.
About Lahav Shani
A versatile and accomplished musician, the 33-year-old Israeli is the youngest Principal Conductor in the history of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra has chosen him to succeed Zubin Mehta, who led it for 50 years. He decided to become a conductor in his high school years, while rehearsing in the double bass ranks of the Israeli orchestra. A pupil of Daniel Barenboim at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, with the Philharmonic he had also made his debut as the piano interpreter of Mozart’s Concerto in A major KV 488, leaving the audience enthusiastic. Adding to the anticipation is also the discovery of the piece that the maestro will decide to pair with Beethoven’s Eroica Third Symphony.
