About the exhibition
The Studio Museo Francesco Messina presents an anthological exhibition dedicated to the historical works of contemporary Sardinian artist Stefano Soddu. A poetic journey anchored in the intimate and personal history of the artist, son of an archaic land of water, stone and sky, harsh and sweet.
Each of the twenty-four works exhibited in the deconsecrated church of San Sisto is preceded by preparatory drawings on which the artist has based his work to give shape to the various sculptures created in an impure material such as iron.
Stefano Soddu’s sculptures are a tribute to the poetic lightness of iron, although they are well fixed to the ground or the wall and can be described as “magical“, full of symbolic meanings. Large iron panels with irregular cuts, circles of sheet metal, bent iron bars, but also the water that welcomes visitors at the entrance: everything is placed in a context that was once sacred and is of great emotional impact.
