Appointment at Teatro alla Scala with Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado and pianist Jan Lisiecki, soloist for Ludwig van Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37. In the opening Heras-Casado presents, for the first time in the Philharmonic season, György Ligeti’s Concert Românesc, whose birth centenary falls, and juxtaposes it with Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major op. 88 in the second part of the concert. Heras-Casado and Lisiecki are also featured in the Open Rehearsal on Sunday, May 28, at 3.30pm, to benefit the Diapason Social Cooperative.
One of the most sought-after Spanish conductors of his generation, Heras-Casado is equally at home with the large orchestra and chamber ensemble, with opera and contemporary. At La Scala, he conducted a highly regarded Mozart’s Don Giovanni, directed by Robert Carsen, in 2022.
