About the exhibition
The exhibition presents twenty oil paintings by Carlo Mattioli, one of the Italian masters of 20th-century art, in dialogue with Caravaggio’s “The Fruit Basket”, kept at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana.
An unprecedented comparison that makes the contemporary echo of the original heard, four hundred years after its creation. This exhibition, which places a contemporary painter such as Mattioli (1911-1994) side by side with a giant of 16th-century painting, shows how dialogue is possible without time limits and with different languages.
Figuration and abstraction are the two keys to interpreting the works of Mattioli, who has courageously confronted one of the iconic works of an absolute master such as Caravaggio.
