About the installation
The original sculpture “Ode alla Conoscenza” (“Ode to Knowledge”) by LibriBianchi is on display at the Università degli Studi di Milano during the Milano Design Week, as part of the INTERNI Design Re-Generation initiative.
The work, which is positioned under the portico of the Cortile d’onore, is one of the LibriBianchi works by Lorenzo and Simona Perrone, who have been creating sculptures with real books destined for the scrap heap for over twenty years. Covered in white, the books become synonymous with culture, knowledge and awareness: without words they scream in silence to be read not with the eyes but with the heart.
Appreciated by bibliophiles and collectors, LibriBianchi are exhibited in numerous art galleries and institutions in Italy and abroad.
More about the installation
The sculpture is placed right in front of the statue of Saint Ambrose, who seems to share its thoughts, and consists of two parts: the upper part is formed by a circle of books in matt white patinated bronze; the lower part, the base, is formed by a cube of 80 cm side, composed of real books painted white. Other materials used are glue, plaster and acrylic paint. The sculpture measures 2.25 x 1.40 x 0.80 metres.
