About the exhibition
PERFORMING PAC Summer edition is dedicated to the relationship between contemporary art and nature: the idea is to trace – through videos, photographs, installations and a small ‘flashback’ exhibition – the interaction between living beings, environments, places, landscapes and image in contemporary artistic practice and research.
The exhibition starts from the PAC’s Archive, which was plumbed in order to reread and reconstruct, through the documents and photographs preserved, some significant exhibitions in the institution’s history.
More details about the Richard Long’s installation
It starts with the 2004 Richard Long exhibition ‘Jivya Soma Mashe. An encounter in India’. The project stemmed from a meeting in the state of Maharashtra between the renowned Land Art exponent Richard Long and the master of the traditional art of the Warli tribe, Jivya Soma Mashe. During this stay, Long realised several interventions on Indian territory, documented in a series of photographs that are presented in the “flashback” with archive materials and images from the exhibition. For the occasion, Warli Spiral, the site-specific environmental work for the 2004 exhibition, acquired in the same year by the City of Milan and kept in the Museo del Novecento’s collections, is also remounted: a spiral form composed of urban cobblestones as a tribute to the Lombard capital.
