Different locations in Milano
This autumn sees the return of the great annual art photography exhibition Photofestival: for a month and a half, museums, libraries, art galleries, historical buildings, and shops will host exhibitions by big names and emerging photographers. The exhibition circuit from Milan and its hinterland will spread like wildfire to other provinces and beyond the regional borders.
Dedicated to photography as civil commitment, the 18th edition of Photofestival aims to provide new insights and opportunities to explore the contemporary artistic language: an expression of the ability to capture moments of history and moments of everyday life in the frame, returning them to the public with immediacy and disruptive force.
In 17 editions, Photofestival has held 1,800 photographic exhibitions, involving 1,760 Italian and foreign authors and 742 exhibition spaces.
The title chosen for this edition of the festival ‘Open up to the world. Photography as a civil commitment” is intended as an invitation to reflect on the fact that the act of photographing is not only a legitimate expression of personal creativity, but above all the way in which we observe reality, grasp its beauty and contradictions, and interpret it according to our values: photography is in itself a way of representing one’s civil commitment, which can be expressed in the most diverse ways: from reportage to research, from portraits to landscapes.
