About the exhibition
Milan’s Fondazione Luciana Matalon pays tribute to female gaze in photographic art with the exhibition “Le Donne e la Fotografia”. 90 original photographs by 90 women photographers tell the story of the female point of view in photography and its evolution over almost a century, with works ranging from 1925 to 2018.
Colour and black and white masterpieces by Italian and international female photographers such as Diane Arbus, Margaret Bourke-White, Lisetta Carmi, Regina José Galindo, Gerda Taro, Lisette Model, Sandy Skoglund, Marina Abramovic, Tina Modotti, Gina Pane, Francesca Woodman, Nan Goldin, Sophie Calle, Cindy Sherman, Inge Morath highlight the artist’s extraordinary talent and creative vision.
What’s on display?
The display is developped around two core clusters: empathy and the search for one’s identity. According to this vision, the exhibition is divided into four chapters: “The search for the self between female identity and social roles”, “Sympathies”, “Women, fashion, costume”, “On the spot. Inside current affairs”.
