About

Started in 1454 from a tale which is both legendary and historic, the Human Chess Game in Marostica is a famous event both for those living in the Veneto region and in the whole Italy. Every two years, during the three days of the event (happening every 2nd weekend of September) participants to the game, dressed in historic clothes, evoke a famous chess match occurred in the 16th century between two local aristocrats fighting to conquer the same woman’s heart. The chess game has strict fixed rules set by a specific committee and recalls two of the most famous matches in history, called the Evergreen and the Immortal (L’Immortale and la Sempreverde in Italian). The performance is quite short, lasting on average 30 minutes, but it’s highly intense, entertaining and eye-catching, interesting both for adults and youngsters.

Details

The performance takes place in the city of Marostica (less than 250 Km from Milan), province of Vicenza, in the region of Veneto (whose main city is Venice).
Exact location: Piazza Castello (Castle Square). This special event is held on the second weekend of September every two years (on even years).
