The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Italy, between Milan (with some events in Valtellina) and Cortina in Veneto. To prepare for this event, Milan will experience a special preamble: the arrival of the “Cortina 1956” Olympic torch in the city at the Darsena (Navigli district). This is not, of course, the “Olympic Torch 2026,” as it will be lit (with solar ignition) in Olympia in December 2025 and will arrive in Milan on Feb. 6, 2026. The “trìpode” – the Olympic brazier – will be placed inside the San Siro Stadium, and the Milanese nights.
We speak, however, of the historic Olympic torch with which Milanese skater Guido Caroli, the last torchbearer, lit the 1956 Cortina trìpode, located in the Ice Stadium of the Queen of the Dolomites.
Welcoming the last torchbearer to the Darsena will be Novella Calligaris (President of the Associazione Nazionale Atleti Olimpici ed Azzurri d’Italia), assisted by Claudia Giordani, a member of the 1970s Pink Avalanche, and other Olympians and Olympians (perhaps Marcell Jacobs!).
