Verdi’s Requiem in the Duomo

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the passing of Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873), Milan pays tribute to the great poet and writer. On the exact day of his passing, May 22, among the aisles of the Duomo, the reading of “The Betrothed” (chapters XX and XXI) will be followed by a special performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Requiem” with the Orchestra Sinfonica and Coro Sinfonico di Milano conducted by Maestro Riccardo Frizza. This absolute masterpiece of sacred music was composed by Verdi in 1874 to pay tribute to his friend the distinguished poet and writer on the first anniversary of his death.
