The Michelin Guide 2023 has reconfirmed Lombardy as the region with the highest number of restaurants and gourmet hubs awarded with the prestigious Michelin star. The region, indeed, boasts the impressive number of 59 Michelin-starred restaurants, three 3-star, five 2-star, fifty-one 1-star, and 7 new starred.
Seventeen restaurants can be found in the beating heart of Milan or in its surroundings. 2. D’O – 1 Star + 1 Green Star
Set just a short distance from Milan, in the city of Cornaredo, Davide Oldani‘s restaurant D’O has just won its second Michelin star in 2021 thanks to the creativity of his chef. The menus proposed by D’O are a well-balaced mix of technique, innovation and taste, enhanced by a touch of humour. Traditional dishes from the Milanese cuisine – but not only – are re-interpreted in a modern key and paired by a prestigious selection of precious labels.
In 2022, the restaurant helmed by chef Davide Oldani has also been awarded the green star, dedicated to those who have distinguished themselves in the promotion of a sustainable cuisine.
13. Anima – 1 Star (N)
Italy’s most starred chef Enrico Bartolini opened the doors of his new restaurant in 2022 inside the prestigious hotel Milano Verticale | UNA Esperienze, in the Corso Como area. Elegance, comfort and design are the key words to interpret the concept and the refined lines of the spaces that counterbalance a purely ‘Milanese’ cuisine, attentive to the seasonality of vegetables and fruit, as well as fish and certain types of meat.

12. Cracco – 1 Star
Chef and entrepreneur Carlo Cracco‘s gourmet hub – aptly named Cracco – is spread over different floors and is nestled in the heart of Milan’s “livingroom”, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The space, whose interiors ‘interact’ with the Galleria, host a bar, a bistro for a quick break, a pasticceria, a cellar and a location for private events.

11. Contraste – 1 Star
Particularly worthy of mention among Milan’s starred restaurants is the creative cuisine served by Matias Perdomo at Contraste. The panoramic position of the AALTO part of Iyo restaurant, located at the first floor of Torre Solaria skyscraper, is by itself worth a visit. 6. Andrea Aprea – 1 Star (N)
On the ground floor of the Fondazione Luigi Rovati, the new Andrea Aprea restaurant and the eponymous Caffè Bistrot opened in summer 2022: a new haute cuisine challenge. Of great scenic impact, with a panoramic window overlooking the Porta Venezia park and the city skyline, the restaurant covers 400 sq.m., with 36 seats and an open kitchen. Close and opposite flavours and a variety of textures allow one to experience the flavour of contemporaneity.
5. Joia – 1 Star + 1 Green Star (N)
Pietro Leemann – the owner and chef of Joia – is considered the guru of vegetarian food or, according to his own definition, of “natural haute cuisine”. At the moment, Pietro Leemann and his restaurant Joia maintain the record of Europe’s only starred vegetarian (or natural food) restaurant. His cuisine is avant-garde, experimental, skillfully prepared and beautifully presented. The wine list is just as classy as the restaurant.
In 2023, the restaurant helmed by chef Pietro Leemann has also been awarded the green star, dedicated to those who have distinguished themselves in the promotion of a sustainable cuisine.

4. Seta by Antonio Guida – 2 Stars
The hotel industry is also renowned for its starred chefs, including Antonio Guida, who heads Seta, the multi-award winning restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Milan. Pugliese by birth, the chef’s heart now beats for the city of the Madonnina, because it was here, at the world’s most starred hotel group that Guida received his first Michelin star, followed by a second star in 2017.

15. Sadler – 1 Star
The star of Sadler, and its namesake chef Claudio Sadler continues to shine on the Navigli. Though it has recently relocated from the Navigli district to the centralk via Petrarca, the restaurant owned by chef Tano Simonato, has also been reconfirmed. The menu distinguishes itself for its carefully curated and light cuisine with a particular emphasis on only the highest quality ingredients and on the use of pure extra virgin oil instead of butter. remaining faithful to the chef’s philosophy, the menu has been enriched with new culinary updates. Its extensive wine list boasts more than 450 labels, including rare and often unknown vintages.
