The quintessence of Milanese lifestyle

The space that formerly housed the Marchesino has been totally revamped by architect Michael Vincent Uy to reflect the décor of the adjacent Teatro alla Scala, including armchairs and sofas upholstered in a warm, red velvet similar to those found in the famous theatre. Aptly renamed Il Foyer, the new restaurant features a profusion of glass tables, marble, and gold appliqués referencing the timeless elegance of its famous neighbour. Beginning with breakfast, guests can sample one-dish options or a selection of bite-sized haute patisserie created by Pastry Chef Matias Ortiz, in addition to an array of gourmet specialties, including sweet and savoury treats in the café that overlooks the street.

Milanese tradition and Italian cuisine, with a new twist

The offerings featured on the restaurant’s menu are curated by chef Anatolij Franzese, who continues the legacy of Gualtiero Marchesi by focusing on Milanese tradition and quintessential Italian cuisine, upgraded with a contemporary twist. In addition to ‘Riso, oro e zafferano’, one of the great classics of Milanese cuisine, guests can enjoy innovative meat and fish dishes, including ‘monkfish with mussels and friarielli’, or ‘tartare of Piedmontese Fassona beef’, which, according to tradition can be eaten either pre- or post-theatre. Those in search of a relaxing break, can indulge in an aperitivo or post-prandial drink, and sip one of a selection of cocktails created by Bar Manager Matteo De Palma. The names of these are inspired by the operas and ballets performed daily at the nearby Teatro alla Scala.
