Since the late 1800s, pastry shop and chocolatier Giovanni Galli has specialized in the artisanal production and sale of marron glacés, Boeri chocolate covered cherries, pralines and almond paste, all made from natural ingredients with no artificial preservatives.
In 1911 Mr Galli became supplier to the royal family of Savoy and in the same year opened his first shop on Corso di Porta Romana, shown in the pictures.
The second shop was opened in 1945 by his descendants on Via Victor Hugo, and in this same place famous actress Lucia Bosé used to work as shop assistant before being discovered by director Luchino Visconti and becoming a movie star.
Today the Galli family still run the shop, which is part of Milan’s history – see the shop’s page on Negozi Storici Lombardia, the website by Regione Lombardia and Unioncamere Lombardia, from which these pictures were sourced.
