The public, first

To enable visitors to fully enjoy their cultural offer, even when closed for the COVID-19 lockdown, Milan’s Brera Art Gallery and the Braidense Library have launched the “Brera Ascolta” initiative, featuring four new projects targeted at turning the public as the absolute protagonist. After the success of the “Appunti per una resistenza culturale” and the video readings part of “C’era una volta nella Biblioteca” (the Italian for “Once upon a time in the library”), the Brera Ascolta initiative starts a new dialogue between the public, the museum and the city. According to the project, visitors to the art gallery and the library can become the authors of new contents such as videos, publications, pictures and drawings that will be published on the official website and social networks of Pinacoteca di Brera.

Into more details

To better organise the contents provided by the visitors, the Brera Aiuta initiative features four different projects. In the “La città resiste” section, people are asked to tell through images and short publications the way they are facing the COVID-19 issue. The “Un museo a casa tua” area enables visitors to the online collections of Brera Art Gallery to express their own point of view on the meaning and role of museums. Conversely, taking inspiration from the YouBrera section of the website, “YourBrera” allows art lovers to select and comment on their favourite masterpiece nestled in the Pinacoteca. For what concerns the Library, the “Storie a 4 mani” area has been created to foster youngsters aged 6-12 to invent their own story, while the “Cosa stai leggendo?” area has been conceived for adults to share ideas and suggestions on books to read to cope with the lockdown.
