A unique repository of faith, history and art, the recently renovated Grande Museo del Duomo re-opened its doors to the public. Spread out over a surface area of 2,000 square metres, the refurbished space houses hundreds of art works including sculptures, paintings, jewelry, tapestries, vestments, religious objects, stained-glass windows and architectural models dating from the 15th century to the present day. The collections housed in the Grande Museo del Duomo together with the treasures of the Cathedral tell the story of its age-old history, from the laying of the first stone in 1386 right up to the birth of one of its most beloved symbols, the golden “Madonnina”. With the re-opening of the refurbished museum, the city also saw the official opening of the Archivio della Veneranda Fabbrica whose numerous precious documents include the sheet music of pieces performed in the Duomo of Milan along a period of  five centuries.
