Football lovers rejoice! “La Stringa d’Oro”, the new must-visit International Museum of Football, has opened in Milan. This unique museum hosts more than 150 of the original items used by the all-time champions and players who have graced the playing fields of the world’s most important football stadiums. Shirts, shoes (more than 80 pairs used by players from more than 40 countries), trophies and original memorabilia are displayed in a space extending over more than 400 square metres on the fourth floor of Milan’s magnificent Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Inside, the space is divided into different rooms, with a special section dedicated to the goalkeepers and coaches who have characterized the evolution of modern football, plus descriptions of the world’s most important stadiums. This format, unlike any other before it, offers a whole new perspective on the world of football museums, including women’s football, which is becoming increasingly popular. But that’s not all. The museum also boasts a high level of technology. The items displayed are implemented by multimedia content that can be scanned using QR codes integrated into the graphics. Also don’t miss a visit to Museo San Siro, the first and only museum in Italy inside a stadium.
The new ‘Stringa D’Oro’ prize
It’s called the ‘Stringa d’Oro’ and it’s the new prize that will be awarded each year at the end of the Championship to the best pass of the football season. The ‘Stringa d’Oro’ is a solid gold lace that can be threaded through the holes of a football shoe and even worn during official matches.
