New addition to the Permanent Collection

The yet uber-rich permanent collection of the Milanese Fondazione Prada – a space fully devoted top contemporary art – has been enriched by a new section by movie director and artist Jean-Luc Godart, located on the first floor of the South gallery. The new “Le Studio d’Orphée” (Orpheus’ studio) – inaugurated on 4 December 2019 – is an atelier, a recording and editing studio, a living and working place conceived to host technical material, used in his latest films’ shooting from 2010, as well as furniture, books, paintings and other personal items from Godart’s studio-house in Rolle, Switzerland. The name of the permanent project has been aptly selected to recall the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, establishing a parallel between the director and the Greek poet-musician.

Screenings and more

Within “Le Studio d’Orphée” the feature film Le Livre d’image is displayed – alongside 9 other short movies by Godart – on a television monitor currently used by the artist as a working tool. Visitors have the chance to enjoy the movies in the real location they were conceived and shot in, as well as discover insightful highlights on the creative process at the origin of a cinematographic work.
