This mega shopping centre opened in April 2016. Shopping lovers had great expectations on it, and in the week following its opening day, a crowd of over 350,000 of curious people went to visit this huge full-service supermarket and its 200 plus shops and boutiques.
Il Centro
includes – among others – the first LEGO flagship store (not the biggest, though) ever opened in Italy, the first store by H&M Home and also the first KFC to open in the country, the widest Primark store of Italy, a Zara Home, an Illy Cafe, and over 25 food outlets.
The building was designed by architects Michele de Lucchi, Davide Padoa and Arnaldo Zappa, who took inspiration from London’s Covent Garden, they declared. Porches and gardens, doorways, streets, buildings and airy, light-filled interiors pay tribute to the ancient courts of Lombardy and also enhance the shopping experience. The use of polycarbonate sheets for the roof facilitates the diffusion of the light reducing at the same time the radiation, which is normally caused by a transparent surface. Furthermore a particular treatment of the panels’ external wall allows to block the passage of infrared rays that would cause a temperature rise inside of the building. Il Centro won the EPSE AWARDS 2016 for the building’s sustainability through the use of polycarbonate, a prize by the European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders.

Multi-Awarded shopping experience

Speaking of awards, the newly open shopping centre also won the Prix Versailles 2017 for its beautiful and also green design, a nomination from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for the 2016 Awards, for the application of the best practices in its business field, and was unique winner of the 2016 Cannes MAPIC Award (a competition annually rewarding excellence, innovation and creativity in the retail real estate industry) in the category Best New Shopping Centre of the year, ‘for its innovative design, iconic architecture, technological solutions and the eco-friendly building materials”. The shopping centre beat international rivals such as the Mall of Scandinavia (Stockholm, Sweden), the Parc Central (Guangzhou, Cina), the Polygone Riviera (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France), the Starfield Hanam (Hanam, South Korea), and the Westfield World Trade Center (New York, USA).

Additional Services

Besides an impressisv enumber of stores, IL CENtro features also a covered play area for children, a baby-sitting service, free Wi-Fi, an information office, tax-free shopping and a dog sitting and grooming service.
In addition to shops and stores, visitors will also find LA PISTA. Where today there is the biggest shopping area of Italy, once there were a factory of legendary cars. Until 2002 this area was the headquarters of Alfa Romeo, and even if the factory moved, the love for motors lasted.

The old circuit of Alfa Romeo has been converted in a brand new testing and safe driving track managed by ACI VALLELUNGA: 1,500 meter of track where to free your own speed desire, learn the importance of safety with safe driving courses and attend events and exhibitions about motors. >>Read more about LA PISTA ACI VALLELUNGA
Only few steps away from the circuit, inside two building signed by Michele De Lucchi, there are a business and didactic centre, as well as a vehicles show room. And for those who still fancy motors, the car industry museum of Alfa Romeo s located just few metres away. >> Read more on the Alfa Romeo museum
