Lizzie OsterkampElizabeth (Lizzie) Osterkamp, a young student from California and a fashion, travel and photography enthusiast, is fulfilling one of her dreams during her studies in Strategic Communication (University of Colorado, USA): to get to know – and be able to tell about – her experience in one of the world’s fashion cities, discovering her favourite fashion brands. Here she tells us about the world of Miu Miu, between design and modern luxury fashion.

“Miu Miu, founded in 1993, is the sister brand to Prada and brings to life ideas from Miuccia Prada. She doesn’t hold back on her ideas when creating items for the brand and strives to create clothes different than the standards of society. Advertisements for the brand are found around Milan and showcase the brand as less sophisticated compared to Prada but still high, luxury fashion which is appealing to me.
Of all the brands I have visited in Milan, Miu Miu has been my favorite. The target is women who want to stand out and be different but still wear luxury items. Their colors are brighter than the traditional Prada brand, have little embellishments not found on a lot of high fashion items, and their clothing style is different from the traditional pantsuit.
Their flagship store is located on Via Sant’Andrea, is one level, ‘L’ shaped and offers everything from clothes and handbags to shoes and accessories. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the Miu Miu store is their use of light blue instead of the traditional Prada green. The sales associate informed me that the store originally used the green color, but they changed it to blue to make the store seem calmer, lighter and bigger. I felt all three of these things when I was walking around the store. The blue walls and carpet made the clothes stand out, and I didn’t feel as overwhelmed compared to other stores or the Prada store in the Galleria that uses darker colors and Prada green.”
