Set within the heart of the Alps, during its thousand-year evolution Trento has known how to attract elements of different traditions, originating from Northern and Southern Europe, combining them in a truly unique mix which eventually resulted in the city being chosen as the seat of the Council of Counter-Reformation (1545-1563). Its landmark sights include the austere Castello del Buonconsiglio, the 16th century villa fortress of Palazzo delle Albere and the brand new MUSE-Museo delle Scienze, designed by Renzo Piano (www.muse.it).
