What is BASE? It isn’t easy to classify but it could be defined as an ‘incubator of ideas and events’. Ultra-cool and socially engaged, it’s a venue, a project and a centre for study and entertainment. BASE Milano is a complex cultural project designed to promote innovation and cross-pollination in creative industries. Located in a post-industrial area, one of the most important projects of urban regeneration in Europe, BASE is contained within 12,000 square meters on three floors, dedicated to workshops (officinaBASE) and spaces for exhibitions, events and conferences. Other highlights include a large study room and an elegant ‘artists’ residence’ (casaBASE).

Meeting place

BASE is also a welcoming meeting place. Its bar stays open until late at night serving coffee and aperitivi. Since 2016, it has hosted numerous events related to design, audiovisual experiences, music and technology, and its calendar is a collector’s item. Beginning with its aim of being a ‘learning machine’ for Milan Design Week 2019, and in addition to collaborating with Ventura Projects, BASE Milano will present an exhibition titled UN-Learn/RE-Learn, a ‘de-instructional’ journey that brings together designers, thinkers, artists and innovators, all different yet complementary, in an interactive itinerary packed with questions, installations, talks and experiences (ticket 5 euros). Additionally, during MDW, officinaBASE will offer a program of workshops titled ‘Learning by doing’ led by professionals in the sector.
