About the exhibition

Curated by Udo Kittelmann, the personal exhibition by Chinese painter Liu Ye becomes the protagonist of the North hall of Fondazione Prada exhibition space. The 35 paintings on display – which have been created from 1992 onwards – interact with the different colours and materials of the surrounding walls and Fondazione Prada’s post-industrial design to create a new narrative flow. Detached from all art movements, the production by Ye reflects the artist’s intimate and sensual imaginary and is inspired by literature, history of art and pop culture from the East and the West.

The artist’s production

The painter’s production mixes and matches art, irony and fairytale-like atmospheres thanks to its various inspiration elements. Memory, observation, imagination, as well as the ambiguity between reality and invention, are some of Ye’s favourite subjects. Links to the Western cultures are associated with icons from the Chinese tradition, while quotes by great masters of the literature of the past are intertwined by modern art elements.
