In addition to the old astronomical instruments belonging to the observatory, the Brera Astronomical Observatory in Milan also highlights other scientific tools originating from the collections of the Università degli Studi di Milano (Milan University). Showcased at the museum are the dome and 19th century Merz telescope used by renowned astronomer Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli to observe the peculiar markings on Mars. When visiting the complex, make sure to schedule time to see the Brera Astronomical Observatory’s Botanical Gardens, which were established in 1774 by Maria Teresa of Austria.
