Entirely dedicated to contemporary photography and only recently inaugurated, the new exhibition space of the unstoppable Foundation commissioned by Miuccia Prada opened on 21 December 2016, and has a name that aptly describes the nature of this iconic space. The ‘Osservatorio’ owes its name to its strategic position, on the upper floors of one of the arcade’s central buildings, at the level of the iron and glass dome, with a spectacular view over the Galleria’s covered vaults. The 800 square metres of the Foundation’s new headquarters, located on the fifth and sixth floor of the same building that houses the Prada Uomo boutique, are the result of an in-depth restoration project, executed while respecting the building’s historic and architectural heritage. ‘Osservatorio’ is a place that will be devoted to the exploration and study of the trends and expressions of contemporary photography, the evolution of the medium, and its connections with other creative disciplines.
