After hitting the Duomo and all the activities and shops that surround it, take the metro to the Cairoli stop and explore Castello Sforzesco. It is a magnificent castle that looks straight out of a fairytale. A little less fluffy and more medieval than a fairytale, but it is magical non-the-less. There is a fountain right out front that is a great spot to take photos. Along the side of the castle is a large courtyard, that gives you a 360 degree view. The castle continues on to a beautiful garden and onto Parco Sempione.
Next to the castle is the La Triennale Design Museum. Currently the museum is showcasing 4 exhibits and all of them are wonderful. On the ground floor is “Brilliant”, a exhibit of fine jewelry. The pieces were breathtaking and the exhibit is exactly what I would expect at an art gallery in fashion capital. I also enjoyed the “W. Women in Italian Design” exhibition. The art work was very interesting and was not what I expected. On the bottom level is a coffee exhibit where you can smell all the different types of coffee from around the world, and based off your favorites Illy will make you your own perfect blend.
At the end of Parco Sempione, next to La Trinnale di Milano Design Museum, lies Arco Della Pace. It is a grand arch that is a great representation of Italian architecture. It’s intricate detail is impeccable and the arch way gives you a great view of the park. It sits in Piazza Sempione, a great place for sitting after a long day of walking the park. You can sit and ogle at the arch and the park that you miraculously covered by foot. Also, a gelato is always great after a long day of walking. I recommend Gelato Duomo which sits at the end of Piazza Sempione.
To the left of Arco Della Pace and across from La Triennale Di Milano Design Museum is the Acquario. For just 3 Euros you can explore the whole aquarium and it’s outside garden surrounded by ponds of fish and other underwater creatures. Inside the museum is a tunnel-like tank where you can see the fish swim over head. It was really cool to walk underneath it; I saw a Sting Ray do a back flip! Also it’s out door area welcomes people to feed the fish making it It a great experience for people with young ones.
